La Canada Congregational Church

Meet Our Minister

Pastor’s Message

The Rev. C. L.

Welcome to La Canada Congregational Church, an affiliate of the United Church of Christ. We like to think that we are a friendly bunch of thinking people who take our faith and our congregational tradition seriously. I like to say that our tradition is over 2,000 years old, but our thinking is not! We invite any and all who would join us in the service of Christ, not only in La Canada, but throughout the world.

All are welcome in our church, whether you are a fervent believer or searching skeptic! Our roots go back to New England Congregationalism. Our spiritual forbears founded Harvard College, which means we value both an educated clergy and congregation. We accept doubt and searching as a part of spiritual growth.

We take Scripture seriously but not literally. We believe that when we enter the church doors, we don't leave our brains behind. One of my favorite things that Jesus said was that “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul  and MIND and strength”. Loving God with your mind means that one does not automatically throw out such controversial topics as evolution, for example, or homosexuality.

Our congregation is thoughtful and friendly, and we have a terrific choir. We also have a beautiful church. Please come and see for yourself. Sunday morning worship begins at 10 a.m. If you'd like to talk to the pastor, please call (818) 790-1185.

Come join us in the exciting journey of faith that seeks understanding.
